There are many hill stations at the southern slopes of the Himalayas, Gangtok, Shimla, Dalhousie, Mussoorie, Nainital, and Darjeeling is very famous for them.

Every year thousands of people go to these hill stations in summer months to save themselves from the burning heat of the sun.

During summer the climate of these hill stations is cozy and bracing.

My uncle lives at Darjeeling he invited us to spend the summer vacation with him, It was a windfall.

I had never been to Darjeeling. I urged my parents to go to Darjeeling for a month. After much dilly-dallying, they agreed to my proposal.

Preparations began a week before the journey. We packed up our warm clothes and other things. We carried our rainproof coats and folding umbrellas. We took great care to make all possible arrangements.

We got our berths booked on the train. We boarded the train to Delhi at 10,30 p.m.

We reached NJP early in the morning. We changed for Darjeeling at NJP. Our train left Darjeeling Station at 7.00 a.m.

It was a narrow-gauge train. It ran at a very slow speed on zig-zag tracks.

It passed through tall trees, high hills, natural greenery, and suffocating tunnels. Fine trees could be seen at a high altitude.

They added to the beauty of the landscape. They also produced a delightful rustling sound.

We reached Tindharia station after two hours journey. We had our breakfast there.

After fifteen minutes our train resumed its journey. It reached Kurseong at about 1.00 p.m.

Our uncle was there to receive us. We hired coolies and reached his home. We felt great relief though we were awfully tired.

We took tea at 5.30 p.m. Thus we had a sharp nap. Thus we stepped out of the house and went for a stroll at the mall.

We met all sorts of people even some foreigners.

The Mall presents a colorful, pageant. There were people of all ages, castes and colors and beliefs and sex.

The newlywed couples were roaming about merrily and happily. It was a lovely sight for even gods to see.

We came back home at 9.00 a.m. We took our meals and went to bed.

We stayed at Darjeeling for a month. We visited many tourist spots, temples, and other places of interest.

Some of the places we visited were Ganesh Tok, Hanuman Tok, Do-drul Chorten, Gangtok Ropeway, Bakira Falls, Temi Tea Garden, and Siddeshwara Char Dham.

Ganesh Tok is famous for its temple of Shri Ganeshji, and Hanuman Tok is situated at the two extremes of Gangtok.

Do Drul Chorten Monastery is known for Buddhism. This game is enjoyed after a snowfall. Other tourist spots are at some distance from Gangtok.

We also visited Darjeeling Ropeway. The Bhakri Falla is situated on the top of a hill. There is beautiful scenery all around.

We had a jolly good time at Gangtok with our uncle, aunt, and cousins.

Darjeeling is indeed the queen of hill stations. That is why my uncle selected it as a place to dwell.

We came back after a month by bus with a heavy heart. The journey by bus was no less thrilling and interesting.

We were bewitched by the chanting music of the birds, green tall trees, meandering road, and gurgling streams.

In short, our visit to Darjeeling was both educative and fruitful. Its memory is still fresh in our minds.
